As I walked from <em>Seochon(\uc11c\ucd0c)<\/em> back toward <em>Gwanghwamun(\uad11\ud654\ubb38)<\/em>, I pondered over options like\u00a0<em>kalguksu\u00a0(\uce7c\uad6d\uc218)<\/em> or\u00a0<em>jjamppong\u00a0(\uc9ec\ubf55)<\/em>. I checked my &#8220;Saved&#8221; list on Naver Map, and then\u2014Eureka! It had to be North Korean-style\u00a0<em>manduguk\u00a0(\ub9cc\ub450\uad6d\/dumpling soup)<\/em>. For travelers, these spots are goldmines\u2014these are where the local office workers eat every day. Of course, that goes for me, a local Seoulite, as well!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">+A quick word of caution: since these places cater primarily to office workers, many close early on weekends or are completely shut on Sundays. Always double-check the operating hours on Naver Map before you go. Luckily, there was exactly one table left, and we slid right in. (There are only about 10 tables, so you might need to wait during peak hours. However, since the turnover is quite fast, it shouldn&#8217;t take too long.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We ordered as soon as we sat down. The <em>manduguk&nbsp;(\ub9cc\ub450\uad6d\/dumpling soup)<\/em> arrived shortly after: a clear, rich meat broth topped with a dash of red chili oil and garnished with seasoned meat. Personally, I absolutely loved the broth. The dumplings themselves were mild, light, and clean, making the harmony between the dumplings and the savory broth feel effortless to slurp down. The soup comes with a small bowl of rice, which is a must-add to the remaining broth at the end of your meal.
